Be it a piano lesson, homework, chat with grandma, whatever you like. You can set up as many schedules as you need for however long you want. Total flexibility.<\/span><\/p>\n

What do we mean by a \u2018schedule\u2019?<\/b><\/p>\n

This new feature lets you choose different times of day for your child’s apps to be blocked. So you can set schedules to ensure your kids are unplugged when they\u2019re supposed to be. If you don\u2019t want your child to be distracted, simply set up a schedule to manage their screen time<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

But isn\u2019t that what the Bedtime and Schooltime Blockers are for?<\/b><\/p>\n

Yes, it was already possible to block your kids\u2019 apps using the Screen Time Bedtime and Schooltime Blocker features. But the times of day during which apps could be blocked were restricted.<\/span><\/p>\n

And who are we to decide when your kid’s devices should be blocked?<\/p>\n

So now we\u2019ve changed things so that you, the parents, can choose exactly when your kid’s devices are off limits and for how long. Parental Control has never been so flexible\u00a0\ud83d\ude43<\/span><\/p>\n

What else do I need to know?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Flexible scheduling at School<\/b><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve replaced the School Time app blocker with School a.m. and School p.m. So if you wanted to let your child have access to their apps during lunchtime for example, then you can.<\/span><\/p>\n

Name it!<\/b><\/p>\n

When you\u2019ve decided on the times of day you\u2019d like your kid\u2019s apps to be blocked, you can give that period a name. You might for example want to call 2pm-4pm \u2018Tree Climbing time\u2019 or \u2018Create a masterpiece\u2019 time. <\/span><\/p>\n

Or simply select from our suggestions, like \u2018Homework Time\u2019 and \u2018Outdoor Time\u2019. You\u2019re welcome \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

Plenty of warning for minimal agro.<\/b><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve also included a new handy status bar which makes it easy for everyone to see when the next Schedule is due to commence. Because nobody takes well to being rudely interrupted without warning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Farewell Free Play mode<\/b><\/p>\n

Free Play mode will no longer exist once you have updated your app. But Free Play fans fear not! Simply switch off the new Schedules feature and manage your kids screen time<\/a> by setting Time Limits and\/or by using your Pause and Play buttons.<\/span><\/p>\n

Free Play reinstated (23rd Dec)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Update: we’ve had a huge response from parents after we removed Free Play Mode from Screen Time. We’ve listened to what you’ve said and we\u2019ve brought back Free Play Mode! You will find it in Screen Time as usual, and you’ll be able to use it with schedules.<\/em><\/p>\n
